Acceleration Programmes

We offer several options the applicant may explore to speed up the patent grant process.

This will help to:

1. Provide early certainty to the patent application that you wish to protect;

2. Facilitate discussion promptly with interested investors;

3. Strengthen your company’s position in the market space ahead of time; and

4. Allow ease of synchronisation of your patent rights formation with product development

Domestic acceleration

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (“IPOS”) will be launching a domestic Patent Acceleration programme on 20 May 2025 to help filers receive faster office actions.

The SG Patents Fast programme supersedes the SG IP FAST pilot programme which concluded on 31 December 2024, and features simplified eligibility criteria, amongst other things, to benefit enterprises and innovators.

The new streamlined programme was developed with feedback from the industry who found SG IP FAST useful but could be enhanced.

SG Patents Fast enables filers to receive faster office actions. Two options are available. Applicants can choose the pace of acceleration:

a.      SG Patents Fast 4: Receive first office action within four months of successful application. 

b.      SG Patents Fast 8: Receive first office action within eight months of successful application. 

Subsequent office action will be issued within four months of successful application. We will also be introducing fees to better cover IPOS’ costs incurred in prioritising these applications.

Request for acceleration can only be made on the following forms:

• Patents Form 11 (Request for Search and Examination Report);

• Patents Form 12 (Request for Examination Report); or

• Patents Form 13A (Response to Written Opinion).

Successful acceleration requests will be acknowledged in the Search and/or Examination notification letter. If the application is not eligible for acceleration, request for refund of the acceleration fee may be filed.
