Koh Tieh Yong holds a PhD in Atmospheric Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MASt in Mathematics (Theoretical Physics) from University of Cambridge, and a B.Sc. (Physics) with First Class Honours from Imperial College London. His professional passion is in the weather and climate of Southeast Asia. He is also an expert in mathematical physics. He has served as an expert witness and a consultant on weather/climate-related projects.

Koh Tieh Yong has extensive work experience internationally with World Meteorological Organisation, regionally with ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change, and locally with Singapore's Ministry of Education. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of his expertise, he has engaged in curriculum development and lectureship across Applied Mathematics, Physics, Environmental and Sustainability Science. He has also held executive and editorial positions in academic societies in the field of atmospheric science. His research interests and funded projects so far lie in tropical meteorology, geophysical fluid dynamics, and theoretical physics.
