
Mr Maurice Cheong is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department of Lee & Lee. He graduated from the University of London in 1995 and was admitted as a barrister-at-law, England and Wales in 1996. In 1998, he was admitted to the Singapore Bar and obtained a Masters of Laws from the National University of Singapore in 2003.
Since commencing practice in 1998, he has built a diverse portfolio, reflecting his equally diverse interest and expertise in multiple areas of legal practice. He maintains an active practice as an IP lawyer with extensive experience in both contentious and non-contentious work relating to various aspects of the law related to IP, IP corporate, media & entertainment, information technology, telecommunication, personal data protection and advertisement.
Maurice handles a wide variety of transactions such as research, development and collaboration agreements, licences and assignments, co-investment agreements, agreements relating to co-ownership of intellectual property rights (‘IPR’), technology transfer agreements, agreements concerning media services, software development and consultancy agreements, franchise and distribution agreements as well as other commercial and businesses-related transactions. He also advises on IP management, IPR commercialisation, and conducting IP due diligence.
His clients include multinational corporations, statutory boards, government-linked entities, major international corporations dealing with fast moving consumer goods, leading fashion designers, medical and pharmaceutical companies, software and internet companies, major IP rights bodies, and local small and medium sized enterprises. Besides IP practices, Maurice represents medical registered practitioners in court proceedings and Singapore Medical Council’s disciplinary tribunal inquiry. He has vast experience acting for litigants in contractual, commercial and corporate disputes in court proceedings.
His appointments include chairman of the Singapore Law Society’s disciplinary Review and Inquiry Committees, member of the CPD Compliance Committee of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education and Honorary Legal Advisor to the College of Family Physicians Singapore.
