    Prof Chu Jian is the founding Director for the Centre for Usable Space (now Centre for Urban Solutions). He joined NTU in 1991 after receiving his PhD from The University of New South Wales, Australia. Prof Chu also worked for Iowa State University, USA, from 2011 to 2014 as professor and James M. Hoover Chair in Geotechnical Engineering. Currently, Prof Chu is the President of the Geotechnical Society of Singapore and the Chair for Technical Committee TC217 on Land Reclamation under the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). He is also Editor for a high impact geotechnical journal, Acta Geotechnica, and Associate Editor for ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering. He has delivered 60 over keynote and invited lectures at international conferences and published more than 300 technical papers in international journals or conferences. With more than 30 years’ research and consulting experience, Prof Chu is regarded as an expert in geotechnical engineering in the areas of laboratory and in-situ testing, engineering properties of soils, soil improvement and land reclamation. He received several awards including the R. M. Quigley Award from the Canadian Geotechnical Society for publishing the best paper in the Canadian Geotechnical Journal in 2004 and the Outstanding Geotechnical Engineer Award from the Geotechnical Society of Singapore in 2018.

    Dr Hinks is an environmental microbiologist. He obtained his first degree in biological sciences in Manchester, UK and later a master’s degree in Environmental Biogeochemistry and then a PhD in Environmental Engineering at Newcastle. After completing his PhD in 2012 he moved to Singapore where he helped establish SCELSE – a vibrant, research center of excellence in Singapore whose focus is on microbial biofilms. Dr Hinks’ research group is highly collaborative, functioning across disciplines and with interest in science commercialization. They interface with several partners both locally and internationally and who hail from both academic and industrial spheres. Primarily, their work is concerned with how small molecules, either native or exogenous, interact with the microbial envelope and the reactions these mediate. Current projects include the modification of microbial membranes not only to kill cells but also to enhance features of their physiology; an investigation into extracellular electron transfer (EET) under environmentally relevant conditions; high pressure microbiology, and the development of several bioelectrochemical detectors.

He completed his M.Sc (Course works) in Advance Reinforced Concrete Design, Advance Prestressed Concrete Design, Advance Structural Steel Design and Dynamics Analysis & Earthquake Design of Buildings with overall CAP of 4.75 (out of 5) and was awarded the NUS President Graduate Fellowship in 2002. His PhD focuses on areas of structural seismic engineering and advance finite element modeling & analysis. Since 2005, Dr. Kong is also a practicing qualified engineer who specializes in Buildings & Infrastructure Projects (including Bridges). He is a Chartered Engineer & International Professional Engineer (UK) with 13 years of experience as Consultant for many construction projects in Singapore and Overseas. He has passed all the Professional Engineers Board Singapore prescribed Fundamentals of Civil Engineering (FEE) &
    Practice of Professional Civil Engineering 2017 (I & II) Eurocode based Examinations for registration as Professional Engineer in Singapore too.     Nitin Indurkhya first coined the term “Big Data” in a predictive data mining book that he co-authored with Sholom Weiss in 1998. He is the founder of AI Data-Miner LLC, which has been engaged in data-mining, text mining, language technologies consulting and education since 1997. The company developed and markets several data-mining and text-mining toolkits, including the Enterprise Data-Miner toolkit (the first data-mining software to gain the 100% pure Java certification). He is currently on the faculty at Singapore Institute of Technology. In the past, he has had many appointments both in academia and industry.
