MOE’s Young Innovators’ Fair 2008
22 August 2008 at Nanyang Polytechnic was an important day for many a young inventor as their months of hard work is finally paid off with an opportunity to showcase their innovative efforts.
This annual event organised by MOE and supported by IPOS, marks an important day in their calendar as some of the projects, which were shortlisted from the IvP Show Audition in June were given their 5 minutes of ‘fame’ on stage . Prior to that, participants were inspired by talks from 3M and an opening address from Stikfas Pte Ltd, and roused by games and quizzes with attractive prizes as giveaways.
However, it was clear what everyone is anticipating, students, teachers and guests alike, as we waited for the young inventors from schools like St Hildas’, Chinese Girls and Choa Chu Kang to come on stage, complete with prototypes and video presentations to share with the audience on their brilliant efforts as a result of the Innovation Programme by MOE.
The climax of the whole event is of course the exhibition fair itself which comprises rows of booths immaculately displayed side by side, complete with prototypes and presentation kits. Students from the upper primary and lower secondary schools were bursting with excitement as they stood by their booths proud and eager to share their inventions with others. Some of the more enterprising ones even designed their own ‘promotional brochures or leaflets’ to give away and encourage visitors to drop by their booths and check out their inventions!
It is encouraging to know the potential of our young minds in coming up with innovative solutions that aim to resolve problems that we encounter in our daily lives and better our way of living. From quirky ones like the “Leafy Trapper” and “Peel & Lick” to seemingly simple but yet very useful ones like the “Crush Bin” and “Car Protector”, all these inventions go to show that innovation knows no boundaries as long as you set your mind to it!

The more enterprising students can be seen giving ‘live demos’ of how their inventions work.

IPOS was also given booth space to display the winning creations of our IP Champion Camp 2008 participants at the Fair.

Numerous teacher and student participants were enticed by the colourful comic strips on our panels.
