Cyber Security Wellness Seminar

SPF’s Cyber Security Wellness Seminar 2008

Following the recent cases of cyber crimes, SPF decided to organise an inaugural seminar to raise awareness and educate the youths on the various cyber crimes out there and how to protect themselves when engaging in online activities. The objective of the event is to educate and promote Cyber Wellness amongst youths in their daily lives, including the ability to identify cyber threats posed by the Internet as well as be conscious of their own cyber behaviour.

This joint collaborative effort, which also includes other agencies and organisations like NIE, ISD, eBay, Microsoft and of course IPOS, was held on 23 August at the Bukit Batok HomeTeamNS club house, involving more than 300 students and educators. The Guest of Honour for this event is Acting Minister for Manpower, Mr Gan Kim Yong, who also gave the opening address during the seminar.

It sure was an eventful way to spend a Saturday morning as participants were treated to back-to-back talks, skits and games amidst plenty of fun and laughter. IPOS was pleased to present its iperckidz team featuring Detective IP and his friends in the form of a light-hearted skit on copyright and basic IP 101s, complete with quizzes and movie passes giveaways. IPOS’ in-house Legal Counsel, Ms Elaine Leong also gave a rousing talk about “Copyright Online”, which is very much aligned to the theme of the seminar on cyber threats and good cyber etiquette by educating the audience on what to watch out for when engaging in their daily online activities in the area of copyright.

In addition to the seminar, there was also a showcase by the participating agencies on the various cyberwellness related initiatives or projects, including our own showcase panels featuring the creative efforts of our IP Champion Camp 2008 winning participants.

Mr Yuen Kum Cheong, Director of Public Outreach Department, IPOS, receiving a token of appreciation from Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Mr Cheang Keng Keong, Commander of Jurong Police Division, SPF.

The iperckidz team, featuring Detective IP and friends entertained and educated students via a lively skit titled “Investigating Intellectual Property with Detective IP”.

Fun, games and laughter were aplenty during the seminar as students demonstrated their understanding of the copyright concepts taught to them during the skit.

Like many of the participating agencies, IPOS showcased a selection of exhibits, which features the creative efforts of our IP Champion Camp 2008 winners.
