21 June - 24 June 2011

In collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic and the Centre for Excellence in Creative Arts - Music Satellite, The Originals IP Champion Music Fiesta 2011 ended on a high note at the 24 June finale performance. The team from Cedar Girls' Secondary School clinched the top prize with their original song composition, bagging home $1,000 worth of vouchers, a 2-week internship opportunity with an renowned music recording studio, and the prestigious Minister for Law Challenge Trophy for their school.
The Originals IP Champion Music Fiesta 2011 saw about 145 participants from 21 schools embark on a 4-day programme to learn more about IP in the music industry. With activities such as music production workshops, a tour of a recording studio, and dialogue sessions with local music industry veterans, participants got insights to how songs are created and produced in the music industry. They also had an opportunity to compose their own song on "What is means to be Original", where the top 10 short-listed finalists performed live before an audience at the finale. Guest of Honour, Ms Sim Ann, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Law was amongst the audience.
Over the 4 days, participants got to experience first-hand the hard work that goes behind IP creation - in this case, composing a song. Through this, they have a better understanding of the importance of respecting IP.
