JPO and IPOS to extend Pilot Patent Prosecution Highway for another year
|
Singapore, Thursday 1 July 2010 – On 1 July 2009, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and the Japan Patent Office (JPO) commenced a one year Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot programme. IPOS and the JPO have now agreed to extend the pilot programme in its current state for another year till 1 July 2011. This extension will allow both offices to collect more information and to better assess the feasibility of the PPH programme.
2. The aim of the PPH between IPOS and the JPO is to accelerate the processing of patent applications in one patent office where the other patent office has already conducted the search and examination.
3. With the PPH, each office will be able to exploit the work previously done by the other office. At the JPO, the application will be fast-tracked and the search and examination process will begin at a more informed level. This will allow quicker processing of patent applications as well as improve the patent quality. At IPOS, the granting process of patent applications will be accelerated by utilizing the search and examination work done by the JPO.
4. IPOS plans to work closely with all IP owners and step up its efforts to educate businesses and consumers on IP infringement. All these efforts will go towards enhancing Singapore’s reputation as an “IP Hub” in the region and a compelling location for investment.
5. Full details and requirements for participations in the pilot programme are available at www.ipos.gov.sg and http://www.jpo.go.jp/index.htm.
