The concept bus exhibit serves as an educational and interactive platform to educate students on the forms, functions and importance of Intellectual Property (IP), and encourage youths to ‘walk the talk’ in making a personal commitment to leading a pro-IP lifestyle.
Singapore, 13 September 2010 – Honour Intellectual Property (HIP) Alliance, the flagship outreach initiative under the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) today launched The Originals HIP Adventure - HIP Alliance’s first concept bus exhibit aimed at bringing Intellectual Property (IP) education to the public through a meaningful, multi-sensory experience, made possible with the support of Recording Industry Association (Singapore) (RIAS) and commercial partners. The concept bus exhibit is poised as one of the key projects of this year’s HIP Alliance integrated campaign.
2 The Originals HIP Adventure was launched by Guest of Honour, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs at YishunTown Secondary School (YTSS). Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, together with first Runner-up for Singapore Idol Season Three, Sylvia Ratonel, rallied over 320 Secondary Three students to support originality and honour IP. Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee also took the lead in being the first person to tour the bus, making his pledge against piracy as an encouragement for all Singaporeans to do likewise.Industry leaders show their support for originals
3 The Originals HIP Adventure features the ‘Are You Original?’ section which aims to educate the public on how to identify original products. The section features products sponsored by leading general toy manufacturer - Bandai South Asia; sporting goods leader - Adidas Singapore; software, services and solutions leader Microsoft - Operations; and RIAS, in drawing attention to the various distinctive traitsof original products.
4 Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS said: “We are happy to be launching The Originals HIP Adventure. With this concept bus exhibit, we will reach out to more individuals, offering the opportunity to understand Intellectual Property. Research commissioned by IPOS in 2008 revealed that two out of three respondents want to buy original products as a result of public outreach efforts. It is, therefore, our hope that such interaction and engagement will give individuals that impetus to take that crucial step towards making a personal commitment to reject piracy.”
Interactive displays and attractive exhibits
5 A key display highlight of The Originals HIP Adventure is the iPad games kiosk which showcases Mission Originals - a fast-paced game application developed specially for this initiative to drive home the importance of IP protection.
6 The Originals HIP Adventure also has an Xbox games kiosk which features a popular racing game, Forza 3. Visitors of the bus will be able to engage in a simulated game-play, which will cease after 15 seconds, exposing players to a message on the consequences of continued support for pirated gaming softwares.
7 Other sections of the bus include sound marks sampling, an IP e-Learning Kiosk, as well as various presentations of useful and interesting IP knowledge.
8 Wrapping up the bus tour is a pledge activity through which visitors can show their support for honouring Intellectual Property by writing on the pledge canvas, making a pledge, and taking photographs at the portable photo-wall display.
9 The Originals HIP Adventure will be making a two-day pit stop at YTSS, before continuing on its 4-month journey to more than 100 schools and public community spaces island-wide.
10 In addition to the concept bus exhibit, other events include a three-day “The Originals IP Camp 2010” for secondary school students where they will be taught the basics of IP, along with the creative process and rationalisation in creating an art piece; online engagements via top social networking sites – Facebook and HabboHotel; and “The Originals Get Reel” - anti-piracy trailer contest for pre-tertiary students 2 . Through the overall HIP Campaign, including The Originals HIP Adventure, IPOS aims to garner 200,000 pledges from Singaporeans to make a stand against piracy.
