Singapore, 23 April 2010 - In conjunction with the 10th anniversary of World IP (Intellectual Property) Day, Honour Intellectual Property (HIP) Alliance, a key outreach and educational initiative under the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) will kick off “The ORIGINALS” outreach campaign with the launch of The Originals IP Race 2010 on 25 April 2010.
30 teams of “Originals” who are united in the fight to protect IP will compete in an exhilarating half day nation-wide race to pledge their support for this cause and say NO! to piracy.
At The Originals IP Race 2010, Guest of Honour, Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS, will be presenting prizes worth $2,000 to the winners. Mr Viktor Cheng, Deputy Director-General of IPOS, will flag off the race at the National Library Building.
Teams of 3 to 5 “Originals” will embark on an adventure across Singapore to overcome a series of IP-related challenges and pit themselves against “IP pirates” across 5 pit stops located island-wide.
Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS said: “I would like Singaporeans to take a stand and say NO! to piracy. Through the race, I hope the participants will better appreciate and respect the efforts in original work creation by others just as they would want others to respect theirs.“
The HIP Alliance is happy to have on board support from the following partners: Animax cable channel, Microsoft Singapore, the National Library Board, Symantec and Xbox.
In addition, IPOS have put together a series of events (Please refer to Annex A) in the coming months. These include the launch of HIP Alliance’s first roving HIP concept truck which will visit schools, community centres, libraries and shopping districts to encourage people to pledge their support for IP.
Other events include a three day IP Champion Camp for secondary school students where they will be taught copyright basics as well as story-boarding, informal chat sessions among youths at HabboHotel, a social networking site and an anti-piracy trailer contest for pre-tertiary students.
