Students’ winning anti-piracy clip to be screened in cinemas island-wide

Singapore, 20 April 2009 – The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) will announce the results of its first Anti-Piracy Trailer Contest at an awards ceremony on 24 April 2009. A panel of judges has short-listed 10 out of the 31 video clips submitted by more than 60 individual and team participants earlier this year. The short-listed videos will be put up for voting at the upcoming awards ceremony. The top three individual winners or teams will walk away with attractive prizes. The winning entry will be screened in cinemas island-wide and possibly other public venues.

In January this year, students from local Polytechnics and Institutes of Technical Education (ITE) were invited to participate in the Anti-Piracy Trailer Contest to express their notions on the perils of piracy. A workshop conducted by industry experts gave participants a better understanding and appreciation for the hard work that goes into creative works whilst providing them with useful tips on making their own 30-second video clips.

Through the HIP (Honour Intellectual Property) Alliance, a key initiative by IPOS to advocate anti-piracy messages to the public and supported by the Motion Picture Association-International (MPA), ITE College Central and Sapura (authorised Apple reseller), the contest reinforces IPOS’ outreach efforts to promote the awareness of and respect for IP.

We cordially invite you to cover the awards ceremony. Details are as follows:

Date: 24 April 2009 (Friday)
Time: 2.00pm to 5.00pm
Venue: Auditorium at ITE College Central (Tampines Campus)

Please RSVP to Ms Tan Mei Jue at DID: +65 6331 6581 or email: tan_mei_jue@ipos.gov.sg by 5pm on 22 April 2009.
