Singapore, 17 June 2009 – The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) is launching a new anti-piracy trailer in another collaboration with the Motion Picture Association – International (MPA), to spread the anti-piracy message. This collaboration is supported by the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Singapore.
The new 30-second anti-piracy trailer, which was produced by three students from Nanyang Polytechnic who won the Anti-Piracy Trailer Contest organised by IPOS early this year, will be screened in cinemas island-wide starting 24 June 2009. The trailer will be launched in conjunction with the exclusive premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on 23 June 2009.
The HIP Alliance, IPOS’ key public awareness initiative, organised the Anti-Piracy Trailer Contest in early 2009 as part of our outreach efforts to promote awareness of and respect for IP.
Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS, said that “with the new anti-piracy trailer, we hope to instill in our audience, the importance of respecting copyright and to realize that a lot of time and effort are put in to create a piece of work, be it a movie, music or gadget. It is important to respect and reward the hard work of IP creators. It would be sad to see movies become a thing of the past.”

HIP stands for Honour Intellectual Property. HIP aims to promote a positive attitude towards IP and encourages a Pro-IP lifestyle for everyone to ‘Be Creative, Be Original, and Be HIP’. With support from the HIP Alliance members, IPOS intends to motivate the Singapore community to join together to ‘Say No to Piracy’ and support legitimate businesses that create legitimate products and services to make Singapore an IP safe country. In January this year, students from local Polytechnics and Institutes of Technical Education (ITE) were invited to participate in the Anti-Piracy Trailer Contest to express their notions on the perils of piracy. A workshop conducted by industry experts gave participants a better understanding and appreciation of the hard work that goes into creative works whilst providing them with useful tips on making their own 30-second video clips. 31 video clips were submitted by more than 60 individual and team participants. Winners of the Anti-Piracy Trailer Contest were announced at an award ceremony on 24 April 2009. The winning entry will be screened in cinemas island-wide and possibly other public venues.
