IP Champion Camp 2009

Singapore, 13 March 2009 – Want to create your own comic strip? From 9 to 11 June 09, secondary 3 students can learn about Copyright and comic illustration techniques from experts at the IP Champion Camp organised by iperckidz, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore’s (IPOS) education and outreach initiative for students and teachers. The camp is organised with the support of the Ministry of Education and in partnership with ITE College Central (Tampines), the Singapore Discovery Centre and local animation company, VividThree Productions.

The annual IP Champion Camp aims to introduce intellectual property (IP) concepts to students and equip them with the necessary skills to share their IP knowledge with their peers. This year’s theme is “Create Your Own IP” and participants will incorporate the copyright concepts, illustration techniques and storyboarding skills learned during the camp and pit their creativity skills against one another to develop a comic strip in a creative comic strip competition to be held on the third day of the camp.

The comic illustrations will be judged by a panel of industry specialists from the multimedia and animation field as well as polling from fellow participants. The winner will be crowned the IP Champion 2009 and awarded a 2-week internship with VividThree Productions to produce a 30-second animation clip which will be showcased as part of IPOS’ promotional campaign for 2010. Besides the internship programme, the winner will also receive an IP Champion Trophy for his/her school, where the trophy can be displayed for a year till the next IP Champion emerges in 2010.

From March 2009, school tours will be conducted to publicise the camp and students will get a preview of the 30-second animation clip produced by last year’s IP Champion, Tan Wiphaporn from Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School during her internship with VividThree Productions. Besides using the clip as an educational resource in IPOS’ outreach programmes, Starhub Cable’s Animax Channel will also be screening the clip from April to June 2009.
