Singapore, 4 June 2009 – Check out the creativity of students at the annual IP Champion Camp 09. Organised yearly by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), this event targeted at secondary three students will be held from 9 – 11 June 2009 at ITE College Central (Tampines Campus).
A major highlight of the camp is the Creative Comic Strip Competition in which participants combine creativity skills and illustration techniques learned during the camp to develop a comic strip. This year’s IP Champion will be awarded a 2-week internship programme at a local animation company to produce a 30-second animation clip based on his/her comic strip. The clip will be showcased as part of IPOS’ promotional campaign in 2010, and used as an IP educational material for students.
Guest-of-Honour at the award ceremony on the day of the camp, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs will present the inaugural ‘Minister for Law Challenge Trophy’ to the school of this year’s IP Champion, in recognition of the outstanding support for its student’s creativity.
“Through the IP Champion Camp, we equip students with knowledge on copyright issues so that they will be more mindful when using copyright materials in school and at home,” said Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS. “Through creating their own comic strip, students will better understand and appreciate the importance of respecting IP rights.”

The IP Champion Camp is an annual 3-day boot camp for secondary students to learn about Copyright and comic illustration techniques. One of the highlights of the camp in 2009 will be a Creative Comic Strip Competition for students to apply what they have learnt and create their own 3 – 6 frame comic strip to educate fellow students about Copyright. The winner will participate in a 2-week internship with a local animation company to create a 30-second animation clip based on his/her winning comic strip.
