SINGAPORE, 5 June 2008 – The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) cordially invites you to send a journalist and a photographer/camera crew to cover the IP Champion Camp 2008.
iperckidz, a public outreach initiative by the Intellectual Property Office Singapore (IPOS), will be organising a 3-day IP Champion Camp 2008 for some 130 secondary school students from 48 schools, to learn about IP rights and to put their creativity to use by participating in a comic strip competition.
The event will include an inaugural “Live” creative competition where the participants will be vying for attractive prizes using comic illustration and creativity skills, learnt during the camp, to develop a comic strip which will be used as IP educational material for students. Highlights of the camp include workshops on copyright, comic illustration techniques and sharing by experts from the animation industry.
The participants’ work will be judged by a panel of industry specialists from the multimedia and animation fields. The first prize winner will win a 2-week internship at VividThree Productions to produce a 30-second animated educational clip based on the comic strip. Other fabulous prizes to be won include NOKIA mobile phones, MP3 players and many more. The schools of the winners will be acknowledged.
This animated clip will be used as education material in IPOS’ communication and educational campaign in 2009 and a comic book will be published comprising a selection of the finer entries as an educational resource for students by students.
Theme: Know Your Copyright

IP Champion Camp was commissioned in 2004 by iperckidz, an initiative by IPOS, with the concept of “IP by Students for Students” and the intention to introduce IP concepts to students and equip them with the necessary skills to share their IP knowledge with their peers. Each year, the participants are given the opportunity to apply their acquired IP knowledge by developing an IP teaching kit that they can share with their peers in school.
In 2006, this programme was further refined and secondary school students were annually invited to attend a 3-day camp during the June school holidays.
More information on this event can be found at www.ipos.gov.sg. A copy of the programme is attached below for your reference.
