Europe- Asia Patent and Patent Information Conference (EAP²IC) 2008

Singapore, 18 June 2008 – From 26 to 27 June 2008, Singapore will be hosting the Europe- Asia Patent and Patent Information Conference (EAP²IC), the premier patent information conference held in Asia. This is an annual event jointly organized by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).

EAP²IC provides an international platform where leading voices in the IP industry will come together to discuss and exchange insights and trends in patent information and IP management. In its 6th consecutive year, EAP²IC (renamed from EAPIC) aims to unlock the practices and processes in the strategic application of patents and patent intelligence.

Leading International corporations, such as Siemens Ltd (China) and Microsoft Corporation, will share their experiences in the frameworks of the IP future and the paramount importance of strategizing a successful patent strategy to capitalize on patents for a competitive advantage.

Distinguished representatives will discuss the latest developments on searching in free and commercial patent databases in two emerging technological fields - energy and water in the hands-on workshop sessions.

About European Patent Office (EPO)

The mission of the European Patent Office or EPO (www.epo.org) is to support innovation, competitiveness and economic growth for the benefit of the citizens of Europe. Its task is to grant European patents for inventions on the basis of a centralized procedure for the contracting states to the European Patent Convention (EPC). This procedure was signed in Munich on 5 October 1973 and entered into force on 7 October 1977. The EPO is the executive arm of the European Patent Organisation; an intergovernmental body set up under the EPC, whose members are the EPC contracting states. It has its headquarters in Munich and offices at The Hague, Brussels, Berlin and Vienna. International Association for the protection of Intellectual Property (APPI)
AIPPI is the world's leading International Organization dedicated to the development and improvement of intellectual property. It is a politically neutral, non-profit organization, domiciled in Switzerland which currently has over 8000 Members representing more than 100 countries. AIPPI is a non-profit international organisation which unites practitioners, academics and owners of intellectual property.
The objective of AIPPI is to improve and promote the protection of intellectual property on both an international and national basis. It pursues this objective by working for the development, expansion and improvement of international and regional treaties and agreements and also of national laws relating to intellectual property.
It operates by conducting studies of existing national laws and proposes measures to achieve harmonisation of these laws on an international basis. In this context AIPPI has become increasingly concerned with issues concerning the enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Association of Singapore Patent Agents (ASPA)

ASPA is an association of persons who are registered with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) as patent agents and are engaged in patent work in Singapore. Patent agency work involves applying for or obtaining patents for inventions, preparing patent specifications and
other documents for obtaining a patent and giving advice concerning the validity or infringement of a patent.

ASPA aspires to promote and enhance the new profession of registered patent agents in Singapore. It aims to do this by promoting and encouraging acceptable minimum standards of quality work, integrity and conduct.

Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA)

The Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting and enhancing intellectual property protection in the Asian region (including Australia and New Zealand).
Established in December 1969, membership of APAA is open to individuals practising the profession of patent attorney in the Asian region as well as organisations which comprise such individuals and are constituted in the Asian region. The association now has nearly 2000 members from 16 Recognised Groups in Australia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka,Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam as well as from Brunei, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Myanmar and Nepal.
