Patent Information for Better IP Management - 3rd Europe Asia Patent Information Conference Bridges Legal and Industry Sectors for Greater IP Value Extraction

Singapore, Friday 26 August 2005 – The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), together with the European Patent Office (EPO) announced in May 2005 that they are jointly organising the 3rd Europe Asia Patent Information Conference (EAPIC) in Singapore at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre from 31 August – 2 September 2005.

This year’s EAPIC sees three supporting organisations. They are namely the Licensing Executives Society (Singapore), the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association and the Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation.

Lending their support for the second time is the Licensing Executive Society (Singapore) or LES Sg.
“EAPIC has proven to be a very good platform for the industry to keep themselves abreast with the latest trends & development in technology transfer, intellectual property and licensing,” said Dr Alex Yu, President of LES Sg.
This year’s EAPIC has also gained industry support from the Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation, or SMa (www.smafederation.org.sg). Mr Vincent Guok, SMa’s Senior Director of Operations said,
“SMa supports the strategic importance that patent information plays in today’s knowledge-based economy. Our members definitely see the need to gain more in-depth understanding of applying patent information to their respective industry and using it to value-add to their business strategies.”
The Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA) has also come forward with earnest support.
“The in-house legal community is very aware of the potential value that intellectual property information brings to their businesses. The EAPIC conference is totally in line with SCCA’s mission to provide a platform that brings together professionals in intellectual property field to share their experience and ideas” says Mr Greg Tanner, President of SCCA.
Mr Pompidou, President of the EPO is pleased with the response thus far,
"EAPIC aims at supplying the regional industry and practitioners with the knowledge of not only getting the information but how to process it so that business added value can be extracted. The conference is now perceived as one of the major IP events in the ASEAN region attracting practitioners, professionals from industry and academia from the region as well as from Europe and the US. Such an event is indeed a gateway for local, European and American companies to hit the ASEAN market."

To date, ninety percent of the delegates for EAPIC 2005 comes from around the world, including Austria, Denmark, Korea, Republic of China, the US, Thailand and Vietnam.

EAPIC 2005 continues to attract leading speakers and industry practitioners both internationally & regionally. This year, Mr Ian Harvey, Chairman of the UK IP Institute & UK Government IP Advisory Committee will present the Keynote address. Ian is highly regarded as a leader in the field of IP, and for more than 10 years, he held the position of Chief Operating Officer of BTG plc, a successful company whose business, of finding and commercialising new technologies depends heavily on IP.
