IPOS launches "Copy Not Right" video - How To Do It Right

Singapore, Monday 31 January 2005 – The Honour Intellectual Property (HIP) Alliance [the flagship public awareness initiative of Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS)] unveiled its latest educational tool today. Entitled “Copy Not Right”, the ten minute video starring Hossan Leong, aims to educate and promote appropriate usage of copyright work. This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Law.

The video is specially produced to educate on best practices on usage of copyright materials in the work environment. Familiar scenarios such as downloading of copyrighted images for presentation purposes, photocopying of books and using contents from a published source are enacted in this video to correct the common misconceptions about the use of copyright works and to encourage users to practise caution and seek permission from copyright owners before using any copyright material.

“This video is timely, as the new copyright law has just come into effect at the beginning of this year,” remarked Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS. “Everyone should know by now that copyright holders may take up civil suits against the copyright infringers and since January this year, wilful and significant copyright infringements can also attract criminal liability. It is important for all of us to highlight some of the best practices on day to day usage of copyright material in the workplace. This video, therefore, is a ‘must see’ in every office. ”
Copies of “Copy Not Right” will be made available to companies in the private sector, institutes of higher learning and public sector agencies following its début airing at the “Government IP Talk” organised by IPOS on 31 January 2005 at the Civil Service College (CSC). Companies in the private sector that are interested to obtain a copy of the video can contact Ms Linda Lim of IPOS at lim_lee_kuan@ipos.gov.sg starting from 1 Februrary 2005.
