Get HIP with Aladdin
|
The HIP Alliance is proud to be a supporter of W!LD RICE’s 2nd annual holiday-season family show - Aladdin, The Musical Pantomime.
The HIP Alliance is made up of a group of public and private sector organisations committed to raising awareness and respect for Intellectual Property in Singapore. It is an initiative by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). IPOS fosters a creative Singapore where ideas and intellectual efforts are valued, developed and exploited.
Since its inception in 2002, the HIP Alliance has initiated concerts, road shows to both schools and the public and various campaigns to create awareness of Intellectual Property Rights.
Speaking on the collaboration, Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS remarked
“IP exists in every industry. It is HIP Alliance's mission to encourage and spur all our local creators to protect their creations. It is heartening to see that industry players such as W!LD RICE has come forth to be our champion to help spread the message. For the very first time, Singaporeans can learn about IP through an original work written and produced locally. We are sure it will be worth the wait." W!LD RICE, as a theatre company, is well-known for its exciting and varied programming which includes
- Staging new and original works developed by the company
- Revitalising the existing Singaporean repertoire and re-interpreting them for today’s audiences, thereby creating a series of Singaporean Classics
- Rediscovering World Classics for the contemporary Asian stage
This is completely in alignment with the values of the HIP Alliance.
Tony Trickett, Executive Director of W!LD RICE, said,
“We are delighted to have the support of the HIP Alliance for our upcoming production of Aladdin. As one of Singapore’s leading theatre companies, W!LD RICE is committed to nurturing and encouraging local artistic talent in the development of original creative works, such as the writing of new plays. We believe that through our partnership with the HIP Alliance, we can help to raise awareness of the importance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights for Singaporean artists’ work. Selena Tan, Playwright of Aladdin, says,
“Aladdin is an original and creative adaptation of old-time fairy-tale favourite. It is written, directed and helmed by an all Singapore cast and crew. Like all pantomimes, our Aladdin consists of recognisable popular tunes as well as a couple of original songs. It just shows that we, Singaporeans, can be creative, original and hip! Together, Singapore, we can do it.” The HIP Alliance looks forward to Aladdin being a great success for W!LD RICE and plans to support other original and highly creative “Made-in-Singapore” productions in the very near future.

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore or IPOS is the lead government agency that formulates and regulates IP laws, promotes IP awareness and provides the infrastructure to facilitate the greater development of IP in Singapore. With IP fast becoming a critical resource in today’s new economy, IPOS’ vision is to foster a creative Singapore where ideas and intellectual efforts are valued, developed and exploited. Formerly known as the Registry of Trade Marks and Patents, IPOS was established as a statutory board of the Ministry of Law on 1 April 2001.
HIP stands for Honour Intellectual Property. It is IPOS’ key educational initiative to encourage innovation and creativity in Singapore, with strong support from the private sector, public sector and industry associations. HIP aims to promote a positive attitude towards IP and encourages a Pro-IP lifestyle for everyone to ‘Be Creative, Be Original, and Be HIP’. With support from the HIP Alliance members, IPOS intends to motivate the Singapore community to join together to ‘Say No to Piracy’ and support legitimate businesses that create legitimate products and services to make Singapore an IP safe country. |
