Singapore, Friday 22 October 2004 – The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) announced its latest collaboration with Warner Brothers (S) today. Warner Brothers will offer a free premier screening of the movie “Cellular” to reward Singaporeans (HIPFriends) who pledge to support the anti-piracy movement championed by IPOS under the HIP (Honour Intellectual Property) Alliance. This is an activity under the HIP Alliance’s current ‘Say No! to Piracy’ campaign aimed at encouraging Singaporeans to lead a piracy-free lifestyle.
The HIP Alliance started introducing “HIP Movie of the Month” since September this year. The initiative is supported by movie distributors such as Warner Brothers. The HIP Alliance would like to call out to all Singaporeans who uphold the values of ‘Creativity, Originality and Respect for Intellectual Property’ to sign up for the movement via the official HIP station – Power 98 FM.
Ms Liew Woon Yin, Director-General of IPOS believed that,
“We are very pleased to have the strong commitment and support of key players in the movies industry to help raise the awareness level of piracy, particularly amongst the youngsters. We hope that more copyright owners will join us in our movement and offer tangible rewards to Singaporeans who pledge to Say NO! to Piracy.”
“We are pleased to work with the HIP Alliance to champion the anti-piracy movement. We want to reward Singaporeans who have come forward to support legitimate businesses therefore we are happy to offer selected movie premier screenings”, remarked Mr Ng Peng Hui, General Manager for Warner – Fox.
IPOS plans to work closely with all IP owners and step up its efforts to educate businesses and consumers on IP infringement. All these efforts will go towards enhancing Singapore’s reputation as an “IP Hub” in the region and a compelling location for investment.
