The Straits Times (p.H4) reported that 2 local jewellery stores have gone to court over alleged infringement of trademark by one of the stores. Love & Co is seeking a declaration on the invalidity of the trademark owned by The Carat Club which had registered the word 'love' in block letters as a trademark for its diamonds.

The Straits Times (Online version) reported that Facebook announced an agreement with 49 US states to take additional web safety steps to protect its younger members. The additional safety measures on Thursday follow a similar agreement in January with larger rival MySpace.

 "Japan may levy copyright fee on iPod buyers"

Mypaper (p.A12) reported that Japan is considering a copyright fee for buyers of iPods and similar portable audio players, as well as hard disc video recorders. A panel will weigh the proposal, which was made by the culture agency in an effort to resolve a long-running row between copyright holders and gadget manufacturers who oppose the charge. The charge aims to compensate musicians and other copyright owners because their work is often copied and spread among consumers.
