Date: 25-26 February 2010
Venue:
YWCA Fort Canning Lodge
Level 2, Sophia Cooke Ballroom
6 Fort Canning Road
Singapore 179494

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan are co-organizing a business awareness seminar on plant varieties protection. The seminar, to be held at the YWCA Fort Canning Lodge in Singapore, will be for the duration of one and a half days (the morning and afternoon of 25th February 2010, and the morning of 26th February 2010).

The objectives of the seminar are:

(i) to raise the profile of, and to increase awareness and knowledge of Plant Variety Protection system especially amongst the business sector;

(ii) to promote PVP applications in and out of each country, and

(iii) to share information on several PVP related issues of topical interest.

The speakers for the seminar hail from the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), MAFF, ATMD Bird & Bird, the National Center for Seeds and Seedlings of Japan, the Korean Society for Seed Science and Industry, the Asia Pacific Seed Association, GNIS (the French Association for Seeds and Seedlings), and the International Rice Research Institute, amongst others.

With plenty of opportunities for question and answer, and a panel discussion at the end of Day 2, we hope that the seminar would be a useful and educational experience for all participants and speakers.

Attendance at the seminar is free of charge. If you are interested in attending the seminar, please e-mail the “Indication of Interest” form to either IPOS or AVA by 10 February 2010, depending on which group you belong to (see below). As seats at the seminar venue are limited, you will be informed by IPOS or AVA if you have been allocated a seat.
