Part XIX of the Patents Act and the Patents (Patent Agents) Rules 2001 (“Rules”) came into force on the 2nd January 2002, and established a regulatory regime for the profession of patent agents in Singapore.
Since then, there have been many developments, namely, the formation of the Association of Singapore Patent Agents in 2002, the IP Academy in 2003, and the built-up pool of more than 90 individuals registered as patent agents.
This year, we wish to consider what (if any) changes are possible to try and better ensure that the provisions work as intended. The draft proposed changes that may be made are set out here. They are not finalised. As such, we are open to other suggestions as to how the aims of the provisions might be better achieved.
We warmly welcome comments from the public to these draft proposed changes. All comments may be made public. Kindly set out your comments in the corresponding “Comments” column of the Table of Draft Proposed Changes, and forward them via email, by latest, 31st March 2005, to Ms Constance Leong [Constance_LEONG@ipos.gov.sg] or to Ms Sharmaine Wu [WU_Shee_Mei@ipos.gov.sg].
Thank you.
