As Singapore steps up efforts to develop a knowledge-based enterprise economy through increased R&D spending, and attracting IP management & other IP-related activities to Singapore, there is a need to build up our IP manpower capability to meet the increased demand for professional IP services.
The Mentorship Funding Scheme, an initiative by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), is a financial support scheme for locally-based organisations to develop in-house patent agents so as to broaden and deepen the pool of Singapore-based patent expertise.
Under this scheme, the Government offers to co-share with locally-based organisations the cost of engaging qualified patent agents from overseas to mentor and train local patent trainees.
It is hoped that with this initiative, Singapore can develop its patent drafting capabilities to pave the way to generate greater innovation and economic benefits.
All Singapore-based firms and companies.
To contract a foreign patent agent for two years in Singapore to act as trainer/mentor to local trainees. The patent agent must not have been based in Singapore for the past one year prior to this appointment.
Up to 50% of the salary of contracting the patent agent for two years, up to a maximum amount of S$150,000 per year, to train a minimum of two local trainees.
