With effect from 1st January 2009, the Registrar will not be issuing certificates confirming that the period of registration of a design has been extended. This is applicable to all applications for extension of period of registration which are filed on Form D8 (“applications for extension’’) lodged on or after 1st January 2009.
For applications of extension made online, the application will be processed instantaneously and the details of the extension will be displayed on the reference page (Step 9 of 9: Print for Reference). The notification of the extension will remain available for printing for a period of one month from the date of the application for extension. In very limited circumstances, such as where there are other pending actions affecting the validity of the design, the application for extension will not be processed instantaneously. Applicants can check the status of their application through the eDesigns search at www.edesigns.gov.sg within 2 weeks from the date of lodgement of the application.
Where the application for extension is posted or submitted over the counter, applicants will not receive any notification from the Registry. The onus will be on the applicants to check the details of the extension through the eDesigns search at www.edesigns.gov.sg within 2 weeks of lodgement of the application. Applicants can also contact our officer at 63302 737 for assistance.
To reflect the change in practice, an information note has been incorporated into the manual Form D8 (V04/12/08). This revised form should be used from 1st January 2009 and will be available for download by end of December 2008.
