The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) is the lead government agency that advises on and administers intellectual property (IP) laws, promotes IP awareness and provides the infrastructure to facilitate the development of IP in Singapore. Our vision is to become an IP Hub of Asia. As part of this effort, we are establishing a Patent Search and Examination (S&E) Unit. The S&E Unit will help foster a stronger patent regime and be a motive force in the establishment of a vibrant IP ecosystem in Singapore.
Responsibilities
You will be part of a pioneering group of patent examiners in Singapore. You will conduct searches of the state-of-the-art to investigate whether an invention is new and judge whether the invention has a technical and legal basis to be granted a patent in Singapore.
Candidates
You should have a strong foundation in science or engineering. Successful candidates will go through a 9-month training programme in patent laws and patent search and examination. You will have opportunities to attend professional training courses and seminars to keep pace with the latest developments in your technical field.
Requirements
- PhD in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Environmental Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering. Candidates with good class Honours degree in the above areas with patent examination experience or qualifications can apply. Among the candidates with some of the above qualifications, we are also looking for a few that have additional knowledge and experience in implementing systems integration;
- Interest in keeping abreast of cutting edge technology;
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally;
- Strong interpersonal skills and a leader cum team player who can be part of a network of technical experts;
- Experience in patent prosecution or completion of Graduate Certificate in IP would be an advantage.
